Beartooth Mountains

Beartooth Mountains

One of the most strikingly beautiful places I’ve ever been. The Beartooth Mountains, which are located in south-central part of Montana about three hours away from Bozeman, took my breath away from the time we entered this area until the time we left. All 27 of Montana’s 12,000 ft + mountains reside in this area. Thankfully, we didn’t see any bears, but we did see lots of marmots on our hike.

A few highlights from the time there:

  • Hiking to Glacier Lake: this strenuous hike was worth it for the views! Stunning scenery from beginning to end! Pack for all four seasons; at times I was in a tank top and sweating, and other times I had on layers plus a puffy jacket and was still cold. Definitely suggest driving a four wheel drive vehicle to get to the trailhead, you’ll drive on seven miles of bumpy gravel road before arriving at the trailhead. We always carry bear spray and a bear bell when hiking, plus plenty of water and snacks.
  • Camping under the stars close to the Glacier Lake trail — most of these you’ll need to reserve ahead of time. The stars were unbelievable, there were shooting stars by the dozen!
